When we look around, efficacious leadership seems to be lacking in all areas of our society. From our families to our nations and everything in between in caught in a leadership vacuum which I believe is a direct result of the fact that we have leaders in positions that lack the spirit of leadership that enables them to accomplish leadership function effectively.
Let's examine what is this "spirit of leadership" for a moment...
Leader. Leading. Leadership. The concept behind these three words have been subject of study for many years and yet still we seem to have a void in genuine and authentic leaders due to the current scene of the leadership landscape. Just look at the current trends surrounding persons in leadership capacities around the world and you will see what I am talking about. So what makes a good leader better and a better leader great? Here is a thought I would like to begin with...
Recently, I was on a flight from Miami to Saint Martin and one of the movies offered on the in-fight entertainment list was The Founder. This movie was a biopic on Ray Kroc, a struggling milkshake mixer salesman who came across an interesting business in the 1950's, conceptualized it and turned it into the multi-billion dollar empire known to us today as McDonald's.
Every one of us at one point in our lives have either asked or pondered this question: why? Why am I here? Why was I born? Why was I even created? Our young people getting involved with more and more violence…why? People in general seemingly have no sense of direction…why? I have come to the conclusion that the answer to this “why” question is one simple word: Purpose.
